Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan, TPCC Media Committee chairman Sama Ram Mohan said the Congress appreciated Mr. Sanjay’s claims of sincerity and transparency, but asserted that he must prove his “good faith” by ensuring that his son cooperates fully with the police investigation. “If there is genuine honesty, Bandi Sanjay should hand over his absconding son to the police and prove his integrity,” he said. He added that if no wrongdoing had occurred, there should be no fear in surrendering before the police and cooperating with the investigation. The Congress leader alleged that attempts were being made to evade the legal process and stated that no one, irrespective of status or political influence, would be spared if found guilty under the law. Demanding accountability, Mr. Ram Mohan said the Congress party wants Mr. Sanjay to resign as Union Minister until his son is proven innocent. He argued that, as Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Mr. Sanjay could potentially influence the investigation. “Someone who cannot set his own house in order cannot claim to protect the country,” he remarked. The Congress leader also alleged that internal rivalries within the BJP were increasing and accused Mr. Sanjay of trying to politically manage the situation with outside support, including from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. Reiterating the State government’s stand, he said Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and the Congress government would not tolerate any injustice against a minor girl and would ensure strict legal action against anyone found guilty, regardless of their position. Referring to the Sandhya Theatre incident, he claimed it demonstrated the government’s seriousness in dealing firmly with violations of law. Published - May 14, 2026 11:45 am IST
