Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar reviewing progress of works under various schemes and programmes in Yadgir on Monday. | Photo Credit: SPECIAL ARRANGEMENT Deputy Commissioner Harshal Bhoyar on Monday chaired a meeting in Yadgir with officers of government departments concerned to review the drinking water supply situation in the district and advised them to take action to mitigate the crisis effectively. Highlighting the possible drinking water problem, the Deputy Commissioner said that borewells and reverse osmosis plants have to be maintained properly by repairing dysfunctional ones to ensure water supply. “Officers of the rural and urban drinking water supply departments have to be on high alert to any emerging crisis. They should share accurate information on water availability in the Basavasagar Reservoir and Gugal Bridge-cum-Barrage with the district administration and take immediate action to solve scarcity,” he advised. Mr. Bhoyar said that officers of the Education Department and the Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KREIS), which is running residential schools and colleges, and the rural drinking water supply department must ensure coordination with each other to solve drinking water scarcity. “It is the collective responsibility of the departments concerned to ensure proper and potable drinking water supply for the residents of urban and rural areas,” he added. He also reviewed the progress of the agriculture and horticulture departments under various schemes and programmes. “The officers should take initiatives to stock the required quantity of fertilisers for farmers who will start agriculture activities during the monsoon,” he said. The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the progress of works taken up and schemes implemented under the Food and Civil Supplies, Forest, Fire and Emergency Services, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture, Health and Family Welfare departments and also, Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigam Limited.
